Iggy's is a Sports Grill & Bar in Orem by the University Mall, a 20 minute walk from
Response Marketing. Tonight was my first day serving there on my own, no training.
I had one table which tipped me 5 dollars. It was slow so Kyle, my football coach expo manager,
phased me so I did my side work and went home. I was there a total of two hours. Adding my 2.15/hr
and my tips, I made about 4 bucks an hour. Nice. I'm confident it get's better than that.
At Response, I make 10/hr sitting in a chair monitoring a few phone calls on a computer. I've ordered stylish blue shoes off Jackthreads.com from this computer. I've watched full movies on hulu.com from this computer. My friend, Tyler Jensen, works right next to me. A flat screen plays MTV2 on the wall by us. A lot of Boy Meet's World lately. Once, when my boss/not-even-a-boss-cuz-he-doesn't-care-what-we-do left early, I had a tummy ache during the shift. I laid down on the floor and took a 30 minute nap. (Working in the Compliance Department at Response Marketing is a lot easier than serving at Iggy's)
I've been car-less since the beginning of November. I have not paid for gas or insurance since then. My car broke down on the way back from Vegas with friends, a trip that was one of many and just one-too-many. Engine was SHOT. I've done this to two cars now in my life. I bought a bus pass for $40 which is good for the year. The last 3 months I've become an expert with Utah Transit Authority. I've made it to doctors appointments. I've road the bus from Orem all the way to the Delta Center and vice versa. I listen to my shuffle. It's not that bad.
I live in a house with a guy named Kirt. He's 31. He's a very nice, mature, responsible, friendly, fun, active and an all around awesome landlord. He sent me an e-mail replying to this post I put on craigslist a while back when I lived at my old house this last semester in the fall. He saved me from this situation I was in. My previous roommates just partied too much. I have clear goals now and I can't live in that environment anymore. I've grown out of doing nothing all day, everyday.
I'm still running CharitySavingsGroup.com which actually had two orders this morning. It was a good idea back in May, but I've come to realize that door to door is never going to be...COOL. The truth is I'm embarrassed to talk about Charity Savings Group. I don't tell people about it. I could keep going and make it bigger, but at the end of the day, it's still door to door and will always carry that icky taste in your mouth. Like GI-JOE's and video games, door to door was just a phase in my life. There are areas set out for commercial use and there are areas set out for residential use. I no longer wish to abuse this precedent. ;)
Also, Restaurant.com is joke too. It's Scammy. They have these "gift cards" (the one product I middleman with CSG) which have this $25 on them making them look like you actually have $25 credit at the restaurant. There are restrictions though, the biggest and most common one being a minimum purchase of $35 at the restaurant for the certificate to work. Other's include only food, only dinner, etc. So that to me is just...meh. Flaky, false advertising, etc. Sleazy and cheap business principles I don't want to be a part of.
All in all, Charity Savings Group has raised over $1,600 for Action Against Hunger, which is notable, and once I've gotten rid of all my inventory, I will have raised a total of $3,100 for Action Against Hunger. Cool.
I've been filming a bunch lately too with a new camera, which I'll talk about in the next post.
Thanks for reading.
